What about the Education system in Chile?

First at all I will talk to you something about Education system in Chile, we have 4 levels of education here, “Prebásica” for children from 3 till 5 years, “Enseñanza básica” for childrens from 6 till 13 years old, “Enseñanza media” for teenagers (14-18 years old) and “Educación superior” for Universities, Technical centers and professional Institutes.

In Chile people can choose, if you have money, between a Public School or a Private School. And If you choose a privet school, most probably you will find an education with more dedication, fewer students per course and have the opportunity to choose a specific educational line, or the teaching of a specific language. But nothing is completely good, cause you will find too high tariffs, and you will need to pay much more money than school is investing in you.

In the universities you can choose too between a public or private University. But here all is VERY expensive. And the quality is not linked to this. By other side the selection to enter to universities that are recognized by the government is not effective. The “PSU” is composed of 4 exams, Maths, Language, Science and History. And the results are highly influenced by the type of school where you studied (MONEY!) and if that specific day you woke up in a good mood (J) or just was your lucky day (J J J). And I think with my experience that to enter and keep in University are necessary not only your knowledge, you need skills like perseverance, creativity, power of frustration! And now unfortunately money.

I think it's true, we need accessible education, and we have to fight for it, but we also need to ask, what are we teaching, what we believe that children and adolescents should learn in this country. Where we learn environmental stewardship, where we are taught to think sustainably, where we find incentive to create new things and not be required to follow the established system if we can create a better one.
